Flat tires are a big BUMMER! Recently we stepped out the door for a bike ride only to find one of these party crashers waiting for us. Fortunately we had some time so I thought it would be a good opportunity for Axel to learn to fix his first flat tire.
He loved working with the tools and the whole process also helped him learn his left from his right.

We always have a couple patch kits laying around and also carry some in a backpack on our longer rides, along with a mini air pump that attaches to my bike. The patches are cheap and lightweight compared to a lot of other options out there. Once you’ve patched a couple tubes and get the basics down you can cruise through the process pretty quickly. Here’s a great tube repair kit for $6 from REI that includes the tire levers so you don’t have to use ghetto screw drivers like us.
No excuses now! Get out there and ride!
